Skin boosters: what they are and how to use them

You’re probably already familiar with the idea of a skin serum - but what about skin boosters? We explain the science behind the newest generation of small-but-mighty skincare saviors.

The benefits of skin boosters

The newest kid on the skincare block, boosters are fast becoming a regular feature in beauty gurus’ lists of products to watch for 2017. Global beauty brands are beginning to catch on, with several leading names launching their own versions of these on-trend skincare supplements, tackling everything from dullness and blemishes to redness and pollution damage.
Their USP? Unlike most other skincare products, which tend to be sold stand-alone or as part of a complete skincare regime, skin boosters aren’t intended to be used by themselves. Instead, you can personalise your daily skincare regimen by adding a booster targeting your specific skincare problems. Think of them as a beauty upgrade that’s designed to bolster your daily routine.

How to use skin boosters

It’s important to remember that skin boosters are designed to complement rather than radically change your existing skincare regime. The good news? Incorporating a booster into your skincare regime won’t disrupt the efficacy of your existing products - so other, more targeted elements of your skincare regime (such as anti-wrinkle serum or brightening essence) can still do their jobs effectively.
On the flipside, since boosters work best as part of a team, you’ll need to choose your product carefully. For example, if you live in the city (where skin is far more likely to suffer from damage linked to pollution), opting for a booster rich in antioxidants is a great way to complement your day-to-day routine. Those with paler or more sensitive skin heading away on holiday may want to think about targeting redness, while hydrating boosters are ideal for those dry winter months.
